Grassland: Careful Fertilisation to Optimise Cuts

Grassland is the foundation of ruminant feed with correct fertilisation ensuring quality and quantity.  To optimise fertilisation, several factors need to be determined:

The type of soil and climate.  This which will determine the potential of the field.

Amount of cuts planned.  The more cuts there are, the higher the nitrogen requirements.

The proportion of legumes present in the field.

With first cuts now being made throughout the UK and IE, applying nitrogen after the first cycle will improve grass growth and optimise biomass production for the next harvest.

Volatilisation of nitrogen on grassland is subject to the same conditions as on cereals. Weather conditions will be decisive for efficient application, therefore the application of nitrogen in the form of ammonium nitrate, like MYPREMIAN® 33.5 N or MYNITRAS 27-10, ensures nitrogen is quickly available to the plant while limiting losses through volatilisation.
